COUNTY BAGGING: North Yorkshire - Valley of Desolation (8 miles)

Sunday, 26th October 2014

If I remember rightly, this was a forum meet organised by me for an autumnal walk into the Valley of Desolation from Bolton Abbey.  The mad fool attendees were me, Brian, Peter and Ed.

The Valley of Desolation is far from desolate!

It's that unnamed bridge again (from my Simon's Seat walk)

Leafy woodland footpath

Fantastic views down The Strid

Out onto the open hillside now

Looking across to Barden Fell

Love this wooden man sat on the bench

...with a Quirky Curiosity in his hat!

Lovely, rusty autumnal colours on the hills

Ed assuming if he looks at the floor the camera can't see him!

Mossy walls, leafy lanes, birdsong and tranquility
- this is what it's all about for me

As it's October, the Bolton Abbey Estate have created
a Halloween Walk (spot the pumpkin)

Returning along the low-level riverside path
- along The Strid (River Wharf)

Sunlight casting it's glow on the fells
Another lovely walk that didn't disappoint.  Probably about 8 miles.

Thanks for looking 😊

Yorkshire Dales: Simon's Seat from Barden Bridge

Sunday, 5th October 2014

Met up with Brian for a circular meander to Simon's Seat - a rocky outcrop on high moorland of Barden Fell.
