WI Walk - Preston Lake (4 miles)

Saturday, 30th May 2013

One of the first walks with our newly set up walking group.  I'll try to get along to them on the Saturday's that I'm not working.

Today's walk was to the "secret" lake in Preston.  A gentle walk along field edges.

Ready for the off

There is a right of way through this field - honestly!

Climbing over a stile
- probably the only ascent on the walk!

Heading to "Des Res"

Preston Lake

Swan and Moorhen

Memorial stone for a local lad who lost his life in a tragic car accident

These paths are well walked (NOT!)

"...I'm sure we can do something with this at Craft Club..."

Good entry for the Scarecrow week

East Yorkshire: Brantingham, Elloughton and Welton

Added as an archive 5 years later in 2018.  I think the walk is about 7 miles.

Lovely dappled woodland path

(it would make a good jigsaw picture)

EYFWI Walk - Kilham

Saturday, 18th May 2013

This walk is one of the twice-yearly walks organised by the East Yorkshire Federation of Womens Institutes.  Each time, a different WI hosts a walk (a choice of 2, 4 or 6 mile walks) and provides a lunch at the end.

Myself, Linda and her mum decided to do the 6 mile walk but it turned out to be nearer 8 miles!!

We were shattered by the end but it was a lovely walk and I wish I could remember the route we took as I'd like to re-do this another day.

Oh, and as always, the lunch provided by Kilham WI ladies was delicious.

East Yorkshire: Paull Foreshore (1.5 miles)

Wednesday, 15th May 2013

A quick mooch after work today in a lovely sunny evening after a gloomy, rainy day. Not at all taxing.... and someone even flattened Boreas Hill!

I still seemed to manage a lot of photos for a 1.5 mile walk!!

Sun setting and angry skies over Hull

The Humber Bridge

Immingham(?) Docks across the river

Old wooden remains of an old dockside

The two still working lighthouses at Paull Holme Strays

A pointless gate!

An intentional break in the flood defences

The Church at Paull

Variations of this circuit is a regular walk of mine.  At 1.5 miles it's a good one to squeeze in when time is short and it has a bit of all sorts in it.

East Yorkshire: Spurn Point (7 miles)

Monday, 6th May 2013

Well, the legs were feeling a bit achy after the weekend's Beginner's Nav Course so I though "lovely day, I'll go for a nice easy mooch to loosen them up again". Packed my flip-flops to give my tootsies a treat with a paddle in the sea :) Lovely day and a nice walk. I can't believe how much Spurn Point has moved/changed since I used to come here in my teenage years. Nice flat walk but still tough going on the sand!

You'd definitely get cut off by the high tide now so check the tide times!
