2018 Summary

So that was 2018!  Lots of little walks and lots of short breaks away.

As far as my goals and plans for this year go, I didn’t do too bad really and completed my two main objectives.

I completed my Challenge 365 Mile A Day For A Year goal, rocking in at a final mileage of 365.12!

My County Bagging Project is well under way and I bagged Rutland this year.

My Achilles tendon is feeling much better, I think because I’ve not overdone it.  It’ll never be 100% right but I seem to have found a work-around with wearing walking shoes instead of boots and keeping the miles lower and slower in each walk.

East Yorkshire: Paull (2.5 miles)

Monday, 31st December 2018

My final walk of the year.

We got a flier from work at lunchtime (I hoped we would) so I went to Paull straight from work and did my utmost to extend the walk as best I could, knowing my "normal" route is about 2 or 2.5 miles.

Anyway, despite the biting wind, it was a lovely way to round off the year.

As I reached my car I took a sneak-peek at my mileage - I was half a mile short!  So I trotted off up the flood embankment towards Saltend to make my 365th mile a little more interesting than a quick dash round the block in the dark later.

These were my views for that last half a mile:

Old boats at the ship yard

Saltend Chemical Works

Saltend Jetties

I'm really chuffed to bits at completing my challenge this year and I found the last few days of 4 miles a day to catch up quite easy.  Better still, my achilles tendon doesn't seem to be suffering any ill effects and, indeed, if I'd had the time/daylight, I'd have happily walked further.

I did enjoy my cuppa and chocolate when I got in though!

Thanks for looking 😊

WI Walk: Brandesburton

Saturday, 29th December 2018

It was our Group's final walk of the year.  A walk to waddle off the turkey and mince pies so we did the easy walk around Brandesburton.  I would normally have reserved this for a much more muddy day but the sun was shining and you get some lovely Big Sky views across the open fields.

A lovely 4 mile walk in the blustery sunshine followed by a scone and cuppa in Skirlaugh Garden Centre.

It was great to get out in the daylight too.

Thanks Mo for another Smashing Stroll.

Hull: Oak Road Playing Fields (2 miles)

Tuesday, 11th December 2018

What with one thing and another over the past 4 weeks I've not had much chance to get out for a "walk".  Granted, I've done lots of to and from the shops type walks, after work, in the dark, but nowt, literally, worth writing about.

But today, today I booked an appointment with myself to go out and "do" a walk at lunchtime.

The sun was shining and the air was crisp and even though I would be inhaling exhaust fumes for the first part of the walk, I knew it wouldn't be long before I reached the small green space I know as "Jubby's Lake".
