Lake District: Buttermere Circuit (5.25 miles)

Sunday, 28th May 2017

After yesterday's thunder and lightning storm and torrential rain, today couldn't have been any more different if it tried.  Glorious, scorching hot sunshine.  Perfect for a relaxed, low level circuit around Buttermere.... especially after the rather bum-squeaky drive over Honister Pass ...

Lake District: High Rigg low level circuit (6.8 miles)

Saturday, 27th May 2017

I'm having a lovely weekend escape at Sheila's Caravan again.

Today's walk was in stiflingly hot and muggy pre-thunderstorm clamminess.  It was completely energy sapping and had me changing my plans once the rumbles of thunder started over the mountains in the next valley. It got nearer and nearer as I approached the "other end" of High Rigg, just ready for my ascent up on to the top - this is when I changed my mind and decided to hot-foot it along the very unscenic A591 - which was quite scary with the traffic AND the thunder and now lightning getting ever nearer.

One day I will return and actually get up and over this lovely, lumpy, bumpy fell!

At least I managed to get my cuppa and cheese scone at Low Bridge End Farm cafe!

Didn't expect to see these ladies!

On the A591 now and hot-footing it back to the caravan

I did get back to the caravan just before the storm broke overhead.  Torrential rain which would have had me drenched in seconds.  The weather-gods were kind to me today!

East Yorkshire: Wayrham to Fridaythorpe

A Wonderful Wolds Walk (8.5 miles)

After a week off work to get lots of niggles and problems sorted out with my house, what better way to start the weekend than with a relaxed amble ....

Free parking at the start of the walk

Anyone know what these are?
