WI Walking Group Weekend: East / North Yorkshire Coast

Saturday 23rd September 2017

A great walking weekend with the walking group.  Lots of laughs.  Lots of food.  Lots of wine!  Oh, we did a bit of walking too...

Saturday started off with a cuppa in the Old Forge at Sewerby - a lovely little tea shoppe hidden down the main street.  Then it was time for a leisurely stroll on the inland path towards Danes Dyke and a return route along the popular cliff top route to Bridlington, before returning to Sewerby on the broad grassy part of the cliff top near where the land train runs.

After a quick cuppa and scone at The Station Cafe at Burniston, we headed to our accommodation for the evening at Cober Hill.  A quirky, characterful building set in beautiful terraced landscaped grounds at Cloughton (north of Scarborough).  After settling into our rooms for the night we finished off the evening with a delicious 3 course meal and a sociable glass of wine or 2 and a good natter before heading off to bed.

Sunday 24th September 2017

On Sunday, after a hearty buffet-style breakfast, we packed up, checked out and headed along the quiet lane towards the old railway line known as the Cinder Track, which we followed for a mile or two to Burniston.  Turning onto Field Lane we headed to the coast to join the Cleveland Way and return along the cliff top to Cloughton.

East Yorkshire: South/North Cliffe - Houghton Moor

Sunday, 17th September 2017

The sun was shining and I had a galloping case of Cabin Fever again, so, I dodged the rain showers (successfully as it happens!) to do a new walk for me.

I got parked up near the entrance of North Cliffe Wood Nature Reserve (space for about 3 cars) and set off on what was a pleasant, peaceful meander.

My Mission - get up onto that hill behind those houses

Stormy skies rolling in

Light at the end of the tunnel?

Heading to Gardom and Houghton Moor

They're not scary on the other side of a fence!

Into the woods we go

Action shot of a bambi leaping out of my way!

The track through Houghton Moor is a fire break in the trees

Rhododendrons?

A lovely 6.25 mile walk, AND I managed to avoid getting rained on.  It just started to spit a bit when I got back to the car so I'm saving a short mooch round the Nature Reserve I parked near for another day, probably when the trees have changed into their autumn clothes.
