Hull : Oak Road Playing Fields (1.5 miles)

Tuesday, 22nd January 2019

Not a great start to the New Year.  Due to a strange injury on the sole of my foot meaning that walking "normally" is quite painful, I've done nowt because I can't stride out.  So, my Challenge365 Mile A Day For A Year is well behind schedule.

However, I put my comfy, squishy trainers on today and went for a very short walk during my lunch break.  The sun was shining and it was barely above freezing but, by 'eck, it was nice to get out in some "fresh" air - as fresh as it can be in a heavily industrialised environment.

Oak Road Playing Fields
This little patch of green space is hidden behind houses and backs onto the River Hull and leads to "Jubby's Lake".  It's mainly used by dog walkers and joggers and there is a decent set of swings and play area, plus a football pitch and is surprisingly quiet considering its location.

I went up onto the river bank as part of my return circuit.

Because the ground was so soft and my shoes were soft, my foot didn't hurt much.  I'd love to know what I've done to it.

I did end up covered in mud though!  Note to self: change into different trousers when I do this walk again.

It might only be a short walk but it's a lovely escape from the office at lunchtime on a cold, crisp winter's day and I felt much better for doing it

Travel Time: 5 minutes from work
Parking: Council Car Park, Oak Road (free)
Distance: 0.9 miles
Ascent: 10ft (and that was only getting up onto the river bank!)
